The Lowdown
The Maratón Internacional Tangamanga is one of Mexico's oldest and most established road races, held annually in San Luis Potosí since 1983. Known since 2016 by its title-sponsor name, the BMW Maratón Internacional Tangamanga, the event is a full member of AIMS and a certified Boston Marathon qualifier, and is regularly counted among the five best-organized marathons in the country. The 40th edition, run on June 28, 2026, drew more than 8,000 runners from 27 Mexican states and 16 countries. The race starts and finishes at the Planetario in Parque Tangamanga I, a large urban park on the city's south side, and loops through Parque Tangamanga II and the colonial-era Centro Histórico before returning to the park -- a flat, fast course at roughly 1,860 meters above sea level with only minor rolling elevation change. Four distances run on race morning: the 42.2 km marathon, a 21.1 km half marathon, a 10K, and a 5K (reintroduced for 2026), alongside an adapted/wheelchair marathon category. Early-morning temperatures in late June are cool, typically in the mid-teens Celsius, warming quickly toward 28C (82F) by midday, so most runners finish before the heat builds. The next edition is projected for Sunday, June 27, 2027, following the race's consistent last-Sunday-of-June date; 2027 registration and pricing had not yet opened as of this writing, and the figures below reflect the most recently published (2026) cycle.
