Maratón Saltillo – Gran Reto is the annual marathon of Saltillo, capital of the northern Mexican state of Coahuila, run each October since its debut in 2022. Currently sponsored as the "Maratón Saltillo La Moderna," the race is organized with backing from the Saltillo municipal government and is promoted as "El Gran Reto" ("The Great Challenge") across its editions. The 2026 edition, its fifth, starts at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 11 from Parque Centro, a new start/finish location for this edition, and winds through Saltillo landmarks including Estadio Francisco I. Madero, the Museo del Desierto, the Ateneo Fuente, the Mirador de Saltillo overlook, Parque El Chapulín, the Catedral de Santiago, and the Museo de las Aves before returning to Parque Centro. Alongside the individual 42.195 km marathon, the event offers a 21 km relay (run in pairs) and, the day before, the "La Moderna Kids" children's races from 300 m to 1,400 m by age group. Organizers expect roughly 1,500 participants, about 40 percent from outside Saltillo, backed by a large operational deployment of 1,500 security personnel, 150 medical staff, 12 ambulances, and 80 physiotherapists. Total prize money is 250,000 pesos, with separate purses for the overall field and for Coahuila-resident finishers. Registration runs in three price phases through August 31 via the official site, maratonsaltillo.com, on the Chronosport platform. This is a separate event from Saltillo's other major road race, the 21K Coahuila half marathon, which runs in May.
