Maratona di Ragusa
The Lowdown
Maratona di Ragusa (XXII edition, 17 January 2027) is Sicily's earliest marathon of the year and among the first in Italy each season. The FIDAL-sanctioned 42.195 km course starts at 8:00 AM on Via Feliciano Rossitto in Ragusa's upper town (Ragusa Superiore) and finishes at Piazza Duomo, home to the Cattedrale di San Giovanni Battista. After 5 km through the city's western outskirts, the route heads into the countryside of the Altopiano Ibleo, passing the rural hamlets of Cilone, Tre Casuzze, Monachella, Cisternazzi, and Fortugno, framed by the dry-stone walls typical of the Iblean plateau. The course is undulating through the middle miles, drops into a steady descent from km 32, then climbs 300 meters of old cobblestones on Via XI Febbraio over the Ponte Vecchio before the finish. The event, patronized by the Municipality of Ragusa and organized by ASD Atletica No al Doping, also stages the StraRagusa half marathon (21.097 km), a 10.1 km FastRun, and walking categories on the same morning, drawing more than 1,000 runners from Italy and abroad. The race has carried sponsorship from Mangia's Hotels & Resorts, which opened its Costa Ragusa property near the city in 2026.
