Medio Maratón Arriba Chihuahua
The Lowdown
The Medio Maraton Arriba Chihuahua is an annual half marathon organized by the Gobierno Municipal de Chihuahua through the Instituto Municipal de Cultura Fisica y Deporte (IMCFD), in collaboration with the Comite Municipal de Atletismo. Now in its 14th year, the race starts and finishes at the Universidad del Valle de Mexico (UVM) Campus Chihuahua and follows a route mainly along Avenida Teofilo Borunda and through Parque Metropolitano Tres Presas in the state capital, Chihuahua City. Runners choose from three distances -- a 5K recreational run, a 10K, and the flagship 21K half marathon -- with roughly 600 to 700 participants from across Chihuahua state, northern Mexico, and abroad. Entry costs 380 pesos and includes a sublimated race shirt, a die-cut finisher medal, and electronic chip timing, plus physiotherapy support from UVM sports-medicine students at the finish line. The event serves as the opening date of the city's Municipal Series of Urban Races and has been selected as part of the state's FITA (Festival Internacional de Turismo de Aventura) program. Like many Mexican municipal races, the event carries a rotating title-sponsor prefix -- the 2026 edition ran as the "Medio Maraton Arriba Chihuahua HG," backed by Grupo HG (Kia, Toyota, GWM, and Subaru dealerships), which added hydration stations every 2.5 kilometers and a post-race family festival. The 14th edition ran Sunday, April 19, 2026; the race has kept a mid-to-late-April date in recent years (April 6, 2025 and April 19, 2026), so the next edition is projected for a similar window in 2027. Registration is handled directly by the IMCFD by phone and WhatsApp rather than through an online race-registration platform.
