Medio Maratón Ciudad de Mexicali
The Lowdown
Medio Maratón Ciudad de Mexicali is Baja California's oldest municipal half marathon, organized annually by IMDECUF (Instituto Municipal del Deporte y Cultura Física), the sports institute of the Ayuntamiento de Mexicali. The World Athletics-endorsed 21.0975 km course starts and finishes at the Centro Cívico, facing the city's Obelisco, and loops through Calzada Anáhuac, Río Nuevo, Calzada de los Presidentes, Boulevard López Mateos, Álvaro Obregón, and Boulevard Benito Juárez before a short climb over a bridge on Calzada Independencia back to the finish. The race runs each year on the first Sunday of March, close to Mexicali's March 14 founding anniversary — the 45th edition ran Sunday, March 1, 2026, drawing more than 2,000 finishers plus a wheelchair division, with a prize purse over 270,000 Mexican pesos. This is a separate event from the Maratón Baja California, the full marathon INDE BC runs in Mexicali each November; the Medio Maratón is the city's dedicated half-marathon distance and also opens Baja California's annual state half-marathon circuit across seven municipalities. The 46th edition is projected for Sunday, March 7, 2027, following the confirmed first-Sunday-of-March pattern; registration typically opens in January through RockTheSport at 290 Mexican pesos plus service fees, though 2027 pricing has not yet been announced.
