The Lowdown

Medio Maratón Internacional Ensenada is Baja California's marquee half marathon, run along the Pacific Ocean shoreline in the port city of Ensenada, about 100 km south of Tijuana. Organized by INMUDERE, the city's municipal sports institute, under the Ensenada city government, the World Athletics-certified 21.1 km course starts and finishes at Playa Hermosa, framed by the Bahía de Todos Santos. The race has run for more than two decades — for years in August, then in 2026 the city shifted it to mid-May to coincide with Ensenada's founding anniversary (May 15, 1882). The XXIII edition ran Sunday, May 17, 2026, drawing about 2,500 half marathon finishers alongside a companion 2 km fun run, for roughly 5,000 total participants; it sold out ahead of race day. Like many Mexican municipal races, the title sponsor changes yearly — Powerade backed the 2024-2025 editions, FlashLyte the 2026 edition — so runners should expect the branded name to shift again. The next edition is projected for mid-May 2027, following the anniversary-week pattern; 2026 entry cost 290.82 Mexican pesos and included hydration, insurance, and a shot at a 320,500-peso prize purse, though 2027 pricing has not yet been announced.

2026 winners: Ayrton Daniel Ledesma Fuentes (1:08:47) and Argentina Valdepeñas Cerna (1:17:37), with a combined prize purse of 320,500 Mexican pesos.

Race weekend traditionally includes preferential hotel rates at host hotels and a 20% discount at CANIRAC-affiliated restaurants for participants.

Title sponsorship changes yearly: Powerade (2024-2025 editions, when the race ran in August), FlashLyte (2026 edition, first year run in May).

The half marathon runs alongside a companion 2 km recreational fun run (not a competitive category on its own).
