The Lowdown

The Medio Maratón Internacional Zapopan is an annual half marathon organized by the Consejo Municipal del Deporte de Zapopan (COMUDE) through the streets of Zapopan, Jalisco, part of the Guadalajara metropolitan area. Now in its fourth decade, the race starts and finishes at the esplanade of the Zapopan Municipal Presidency on Avenida Hidalgo and draws up to 8,000 runners from Mexico and abroad along a certified 21.0975 km course through the city's most representative avenues, including Avenida Patria and Avenida de las Americas. The event distributes roughly $1,500,000 MXN in prize money across general, age-group, and Zapopan-resident categories, and includes dedicated divisions for wheelchair, visually impaired, and blind athletes, plus free entry for ranked athletes and runners 65 and older. A companion children's race and a multi-day expo with packet pickup round out race weekend. The 2026 edition (its 37th) ran on May 17 with an early-morning wave start to beat Jalisco's hot late-spring temperatures. The next edition is expected to follow the same mid-May, third-Sunday cadence the race has kept in recent years, with online registration opening months in advance on a tiered pricing schedule through 21kzapopan.com.
