Montepio Cascais Half Marathon
The Lowdown
Montepio Cascais Half Marathon is Portugal's AIMS-certified coastal half marathon, held annually in Cascais Bay just west of Lisbon. The 21.0975 km course starts and finishes on the Dom Luís I seafront promenade, tracing the Atlantic coastline out toward Guincho before returning along the bay to the Cascais Marina. Runners pass through pine-lined dunes, cliffside viewpoints, and the resort town's cobblestone streets, with the ocean visible for nearly the entire route. The event, organized by HMS Sports with Cascais City Council, also includes 10K and 5K races plus a kids' race, drawing thousands of Portuguese and international runners each winter. The 10th edition took place on 1 February 2026, after being rescheduled from its original January date due to a possible presidential election runoff. Known for its scenic but breezy Atlantic conditions, fast, mostly flat profile, and lively finish-line atmosphere at the Marina, Montepio Cascais Half Marathon has become one of Portugal's most popular winter road races.
