The Lowdown

The New York City Half Marathon, branded the United Airlines NYC Half under its title sponsor since 2014, is organized every March by New York Road Runners (NYRR), the same nonprofit behind the TCS New York City Marathon. The 13.1-mile course starts on Prospect Park's Center Drive in Brooklyn, crosses the East River into Manhattan, runs along FDR Drive, cuts through Times Square on 7th Avenue, and finishes near Tavern on the Green in Central Park. First held in 2006 and moved from summer to a March date in 2010 to manage demand, the race draws roughly 25,000 to 30,000 finishers each year and is one of the largest half marathons in the United States. Entry is through NYRR's guaranteed-entry programs (including the 9+1 and 4 Out of 6 membership programs), a non-guaranteed drawing, or a charity/travel-package bib, since the race does not offer simple open online registration. The 2027 edition is projected for Sunday, March 21, following the event's established third-Sunday-in-March cadence; NYRR has not yet opened the 2027 guaranteed-entry claim window or announced final 2027 pricing as of this writing.
