Phoenix-Halbmarathon
The Lowdown
The Phoenix-Halbmarathon is an annual half marathon held every October in Dortmund, Germany, now in its 13th edition in 2026. The flat, DLV-certified 21.1 km course starts and finishes at Phoenix-See, an artificial lake built on the site of the former Hoesch/Phoenix steelworks in Dortmund's Horde district, and loops through Phoenix-West, Westfalenpark, and Rombergpark before returning to the lake. A three-person relay (Staffel) covers the same course alongside the individual race, and a KNAX Fun Run for kindergarten and primary-school children rounds out race weekend. Sparkasse Dortmund is the event's title sponsor, but the race is known locally simply as the Phoenix-Halbmarathon, so that neutral name is used here, with the sponsorship noted for context. The individual half marathon reached its 3,500-runner cap shortly after the September 7, 2026 registration deadline; entry cost EUR 45 for the first 500 registrations and EUR 50 afterward. Relay team entries, capped at 250 teams, remain open online through race morning at EUR 75 per team, with a EUR 5 late fee at the venue when capacity allows. The race starts at 11:00 on Saturday, October 3, 2026, with a three-hour finish cutoff and an intermediate checkpoint at the Rombergpark exit (13 km) that runners must reach within two hours. The 12th edition in 2025 drew a record roughly 6,000 participants across the half marathon, relay, and youth races combined.
