Schweriner Fünf-Seen-Lauf
The Lowdown
The Schweriner Fünf-Seen-Lauf (Schwerin Five Lakes Run) is one of the largest running events in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, first held in 1985 and returning for its 41st edition on July 3, 2027. Runners start and finish at Bertha-Klingberg-Platz in the heart of Schwerin, the state capital, on a course that winds past the city's UNESCO World Heritage ensemble of palaces, gardens, and lakeside promenades, with sweeping views of Schwerin Castle across the water. Despite the name, route changes over the decades mean today's course touches three of the city's lakes rather than five, on mostly flat paths with a few gentle rises. The event offers a Half Marathon, a 15K, a 10K (WEMAG Run), a 5K, and a 1,852-meter Seemeile for children up to age 12, plus 5K and 10K walking and Nordic walking options, drawing roughly 2,900 participants across all distances. Bib pickup runs the Friday before at Bertha-Klingberg-Platz, with race-morning pickup also available. Late-June and early-July weather in Schwerin tends to be warm and sometimes humid, so runners should plan for summer conditions along the shaded lakeside sections. It's a well-established community event for anyone visiting northern Germany's lake district who wants a scenic, mostly flat half marathon (or shorter distance) through a genuinely photogenic old town.
