Trierer Stadtlauf

The Trierer Stadtlauf (officially the Internationaler Trierer Stadtlauf) is an annual road-race festival through the historic old town of Trier, Rheinland-Pfalz — Germany's oldest city — organized since 1984 by Silvesterlauf Trier e.V. The flagship half marathon (21.1 km) starts on Simeonstraße beside the Porta Nigra and winds past the Kaiserthermen (Imperial Roman Baths), the Konstantin Basilica, and the Moselle riverfront before finishing back at the Porta Nigra; the course is flat and officially measured. A 10 km run, a 5.4 km company-and-public run, a 1.6 km youth race, and a 400 m children's run (Bambinilauf) share the same start-finish area on the same morning. The event regularly draws national-caliber fields — the 2026 half marathon and 10 km entry lists included German internationals racing ahead of that year's European Championships — and its course records have stood for years: 28:44 for the 10 km (Samuel Kosgei, 2008) and 63:28 for the half marathon (Mark Kiplagat Kipchumba). The planned 40th edition, scheduled for June 28, 2026, was cancelled by the organizing club just before race day because of an extreme heatwave forecast — the event's first cancellation in its history — with the 41st edition expected to return to the traditional last-Sunday-of-June date in 2027, though the exact date has not yet been officially confirmed. Registration is handled online only, with combined participant caps historically around 4,500 across all distances (2,000 for the half marathon, 1,500 for the 10 km, 1,000 for the 5.4 km).
