The Lowdown

The Wormser Nibelungenlauf is an annual road race held each September in Worms, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany, one of Germany's oldest cities and the legendary setting of the medieval Nibelungenlied saga. First run in 2004, the 2026 edition is the 23rd. The DLV-certified, record-eligible course starts and finishes at the purpose-built Nibelungenlauf-Arena on the Rhine promenade near the Hagen Monument and Kriemhild's Rose Garden, then loops (twice for the half marathon, once for the 10K) past the Nibelungenbrücke, the Nibelungenturm, the Wormser Stadtwald, and the Rheindamm. The flat, fast, out-and-back layout draws runners chasing personal bests alongside women's, 60+, and student 5K fields, plus a Saturday children's Bambinilauf. The roughly 2,200-runner field regularly sells out weeks before the online registration deadline.
