The Lowdown

20 km de Lausanne is the flagship race of Switzerland's second-largest running weekend, held every April in Lausanne, canton Vaud. Founded in 1982 at the initiative of IOC president Juan Antonio Samaranch, the event has grown from 1,470 runners at its first edition to more than 34,000 participants across all its races in 2026. The 20 km course winds along Lake Geneva and through Lausanne's hilly streets before finishing inside Stade Pierre-de-Coubertin, with an elevation profile of +268 m / -274 m. The same weekend also includes 10 km, 5 km, walking, and junior races. The 8,000 available 20 km bibs for the 2026 edition sold out; the next edition runs April 24-25, 2027, with the 20 km race on Sunday morning.

The City of Lausanne previewed the 44th 20KM de Lausanne, expecting more than 38,500 participants across all races and warning of major traffic disruptions in southern and central Lausanne, especially on Sunday.
Apr 26, 2026: 34,207 finishers and three course records at the 2026 edition
The 2026 edition drew 34,207 participants across all races; Brian Kipchumba (1:00:49) and Sylvia Changeiwo (1:06:23) won the 20 km, while new course records were set in the 10 km, 5 km and junior 4 km races.
