The Berlin Marathon is held on the last weekend of September and is one of the Abbott World Marathon Majors. It is known as a flat, fast course on which multiple world records have been set, and it also draws a large field of recreational runners. The route runs through central Berlin and finishes on Straße des 17. Juni in front of the Brandenburg Gate. It is a World Athletics Platinum Label race and the course is accepted for Boston Marathon qualifying. Entry is mostly by lottery. Runners enter through a personal account, can register as a team of two or three, or can apply through the fast runner track with a qualifying marathon time from the past two seasons. Guaranteed places go to Jubilee Club members and to holders of Berlin's Sozialticket S, and charity and tour-operator places are also available. The time limit is 6 hours 15 minutes, and walkers are welcome as long as they finish within it. The race ran for years as the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON. From 2027 it runs as the GENERALI BERLIN-MARATHON, after Generali Deutschland became title partner on 1 October 2026, and people searching for either name are looking for this same event. The organizer is SCC EVENTS, and the race weekend also includes wheelchair, handbike and inline skating events.
