Carrera Atlética La Opinión
The Lowdown
Carrera Atlética La Opinión is an annual road race organized by La Opinión, the daily newspaper of Poza Rica, Veracruz, and run on the fourth Sunday of February each year. Locally the event carries the fuller name Carrera Atlética La Opinión "Raúl Gibb Guerrero," honoring the newspaper's founder, who was assassinated in 2005, and it doubles as part of La Opinión's annual anniversary celebrations. The race offers a competitive 10K and 5K plus a non-competitive 3K recreational fun run, drawing more than 400 runners from Poza Rica and neighboring municipalities across northern Veracruz. The course winds through the streets of this Gulf Coast oil city, with registration and timing handled by Precisión Total. The 2027 edition marks the race's 47th running, continuing a tradition that has been part of Poza Rica's sporting calendar for more than four decades.
