Carrera Atlética por la Paz Fundación UNAM
The Lowdown
The Carrera Atlética por la Paz Fundación UNAM is an annual charity road race organized by Fundación UNAM in collaboration with UNAM's Dirección General del Deporte Universitario and the Fundación Alfredo Harp Helú para el Deporte. Held each spring around Ciudad Universitaria in Mexico City, the event starts and finishes at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario and marks the UN International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. Runners choose between 3K, 5K, and 10K distances, with the 10K open to ages 18 and up and the 5K open to ages 15 and up. The race has grown quickly since it began in the 2020s, drawing roughly 9,000 runners to its 2026 edition, up from about 5,000 the year before. The course winds past UNAM's Jardín Botánico and the Instituto de Biología before returning to the stadium's tartan track. Entry proceeds fund scholarships and financial support for UNAM students, including students with disabilities.
