The Lowdown

The Garda Trentino Half Marathon, staged in the picturesque town of Riva del Garda on the northern shore of Lake Garda, is a well-established event that draws regional and international runners to Trentino. Organized by Trentino Eventi, the race has grown into a memorable annual fixture thanks to its scenic setting and friendly local hospitality. Although the race date in 2026 falls in November, the event maintains the same attention to course organization and runner services that have defined its history, with chip timing, aid stations, and a festive finish-line atmosphere in the lakeside town center. The out-and-back/loop course (depending on the edition) threads along the lakefront promenade and climbs briefly into olive-terraced lanes and panoramic viewpoints, offering continuous views of Lake Garda and the surrounding Dolomite foothills. Runners will pass historic harbors, medieval streets, and dramatic cliff-backed scenery, making it a visually rewarding route that balances fast, flat stretches along the water with a few rolling sections that add character without being overly demanding. The race is typically run on well-paved roads with clear signage and friendly marshals. Atmosphere on race day is lively and welcoming, with local supporters, music at key points, and post-race refreshments featuring regional flavors—ideal for athletes chasing a personal best or those simply soaking up the scenery. The course is officially measured and organized to international standards; it is listed by the organizers as an accurately measured road half marathon and conforms to AIMS/World Athletics measurement protocols, making it suitable for record-keeping and competitive performances.

Early November in northern Italy is cool and potentially wet.

The point-to-point nature means a little extra planning. The organizers provide shuttle buses from Riva (finish area) to the start in Arco on race morning – many runners park in Riva (or stay there) and shuttle to the start.

Alternatively, you can stay in Arco (a smaller town) and then collect bags or walk back (it’s about 5 km from Riva to Arco, which some runners do as a cool-down or via shuttle). Both towns are small and walkable.

Consider visiting local vineyards, the castle of Arco, or taking a boat ride on Lake Garda. Also, be ready for some Italian style at the finish: instead of a bagel, you might get fruit, pastries, or even a cup of espresso.

Packet pick up available on race day, consult with organizers to confirm.
