The Great Cumbrian Run is Cumbria's leading half marathon, held annually in Carlisle since 1982. The 2026 edition, the race's 42nd, is scheduled for Sunday, 4 October 2026, starting at 09:00 from Mayors Drive beside Bitts Park and finishing at Sheepmount Athletics Stadium. Alongside the flagship Half Marathon (13.1 miles), the event weekend includes a 10K through Carlisle's city centre and Rickerby Park, a newly re-measured 5K, and a family-friendly one-mile Fun Run. The race is organised by Better in partnership with Sport in Action and supports four local charities: I CAAN, Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland, Every Life Matters, and Jigsaw/Eden Valley Hospice. The men's course record of 1:03:35 was set by Kenya's Francis Bowen in 2004; the women's record of 1:15:48 belongs to Joyce Kandie, set in 2005. Entries for 2026 remain open via Events Up North, with 425 half marathon places and 320 10K places left as of August 2026; registration closes 1 October 2026 or when categories sell out. Race-number collection runs 2-4 October, with race-day collection from 07:30.
