Great Ireland Run
The Lowdown
The Great Ireland Run is Ireland's largest annual 10K road race, held each April in Dublin's Phoenix Park since 2003 as part of the international Great Run series that also includes the Great North Run. Currently sponsored by Revive Active, the race also serves as the Athletics Ireland National 10K Road Championships, awarding medals across Senior and Masters age divisions. The flat, fast course starts on Chesterfield Avenue and loops clockwise through the park's open parkland before finishing on Furze Road, passing landmarks including the Wellington Monument and Áras an Uachtaráin, the official residence of the President of Ireland. The course has attracted elite fields over the years, with men's and women's course records set by Kenenisa Bekele (27:49, 2012) and Meselech Melkamu (31:41, 2006). Organized by Dublin City Harriers under an Athletics Ireland permit, the event regularly draws thousands of runners of all abilities, from national championship contenders to first-time 10K finishers, alongside a 2.5K family fun run for children aged 8 to 15. Race day has a lively, community atmosphere, and recent editions have sold out well ahead of race day — the 2026 edition filled its entry allocation before its April 12 race date. The next edition is expected on April 11, 2027.
