The Lowdown

The Vhi Women's Mini Marathon is a 10K road race held annually on Dublin's June bank holiday Sunday, run entirely by women through the streets of Dublin city centre. First staged in 1983 with roughly 9,000 entrants, it has grown into the largest women-only event of its kind in the world and Ireland's largest one-day charity fundraiser, with an estimated €230 million raised for good causes since it began. The event set a record in 2014 when over 41,000 women took part; recent editions have drawn close to 30,000 participants and sold out well ahead of race day, as the 2026 edition did. The course starts on Fitzwilliam Place in Dublin 2 and finishes on Lower Baggot Street, sending runners on a flat loop through Dublin's Georgian city centre. Entrants can take part in person or complete the distance virtually and log their time online; every finisher receives a medal, with personalised medal inserts and official race photographs available to purchase afterward. Health insurer Vhi has been title sponsor since 2014 and extended its partnership through 2031 in 2026, one of Ireland's longest-running sports sponsorships. The 2026 Vhi Women's Mini Marathon, its 44th running, took place on 31 May and sold out its entries. The next edition is scheduled for Sunday, 6 June 2027 at 12:30pm; registration typically opens several months beforehand, so runners should join the event's mailing list or watch its social channels for the opening date.
