Maratón Ciudad de Guatemala
The Lowdown
The Maratón Ciudad de Guatemala is Guatemala's first-ever officially organized full 42.2km marathon, launched in 2026 by the Municipalidad de Guatemala to coincide with the capital's 250th anniversary. Organized in partnership with MaratonGUATE (Guatemala's leading endurance-sports organization, active since 2005), the inaugural edition starts at 5:00 a.m. from in front of the Municipalidad de Guatemala in zone 4 and threads through the city's most emblematic landmarks: the Centro Histórico, the National Palace of Culture, Calle Martí, the Relief Map (Mapa en Relieve), Puente de Belén, the Bethania neighborhood, Periférico ring road, the University of San Carlos, Petapa Avenue near IRTRA Mundo Petapa, the National Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology, Hincapié Avenue, Avenida Las Américas, and Avenida Reforma, finishing back near the National Palace. The route is being pursued for AIMS/World Athletics certification, positioning the race as Guatemala's entry into the regional marathon circuit. A companion 21K half marathon starts at 6:00 a.m. from the same venue.
