Maratón de la Marina

The Maratón de la Marina is Yucatán's oldest road race, staged annually on the first Sunday of June to coincide with Día de la Marina (Mexican Navy Day, June 1) by the Instituto del Deporte del Estado de Yucatán (IDEY) alongside the Mexican Navy's Zona Naval Militar de Yucalpetén (SEMAR) and the Administración Portuaria Integral (Asipona) de Progreso. It is a point-to-point course distinct from Mérida's January city marathon: the 42.195 km marathon and four-person relay teams start before dawn at the Monumento a la Patria on Mérida's Paseo de Montejo and finish roughly 40 km north at the Malecón Internacional in the port town of Progreso, near the Meteorite Museum. A companion half marathon (21.097 km) joins the same route from the Komchén bridge outside Mérida. The 2026 edition, its 35th running, drew an estimated 3,200 entrants across the three distances and offered a combined prize purse of 350,000 Mexican pesos, and for the first time carried an endorsement from the World Athletics federation in Mexico. Registration for recent editions has run through the Volaré platform (with Rihno Runners and Planeta Maratón as secondary outlets in 2025).
