Maya Marathon
The Lowdown
The Maya Marathon is a boutique destination marathon held on the Caribbean island of Cozumel, off Mexico's Riviera Maya coast in Quintana Roo. Part of the international Wildmarathon Series, it is a small-field, all-inclusive running experience that combines a full 42.2 km marathon with a multi-day trip package (five-star beachfront accommodation, meals, airport transfers, and guided excursions). The course is famously flat and fast, with roughly 30 meters of total accumulated elevation change and no gradients above 5%. Runners cover a mix of terrain: about 65% smooth asphalt bike lane, 32% well-maintained ocean-view dirt road, and a scenic 3% beach section, including a roughly 7 km traffic-free circuit through the pristine Punta Sur Nature Park at the island's southern tip. Cozumel sits in front of one of the most spectacular coral reef systems in the world, and the trip pairs the race with snorkeling, Punta Sur National Park, and Maya ruins tours. Alongside the full marathon, the event also offers a half marathon and a 10K on the same race day (December 13), set within a December 11-15 event window. With warm tropical weather, a relaxed island atmosphere, and an intimate field of runners from around the world, the Maya Marathon is aimed at travelers seeking a bucket-list marathon in a Caribbean paradise rather than a mass-participation city race.
