Media Maratón Ciudad de La Laguna
The Lowdown
The Media Maratón Ciudad de La Laguna is an annual half marathon through the historic center of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, a UNESCO World Heritage city on the island of Tenerife in Spain's Canary Islands. Organized by the Organismo Autónomo de Deportes (OAD) of the Ayuntamiento de La Laguna, the race starts and finishes at the Plaza de la Catedral and offers three distances run concurrently: a two-lap 21.097 km half marathon, a one-lap 10K, and a 5K. The route winds through the colonial-era streets of the old town, including Calle Obispo Rey Redondo, Plaza de la Concepción, Calle Adelantado and Avenida de la Trinidad, before finishing back at the cathedral square. Now approaching its third decade, the event has grown steadily; the 2025 edition (its 24th) drew a record 1,900 registered runners, more than 40% of them women, and is run as a memorial to local runner Javier Quintero. The 25th edition took place on May 10, 2026. Based on the event's recent scheduling pattern (the second Sunday of May in both 2025 and 2026), the 26th edition is projected for May 9, 2027; the OAD has not yet published registration details for that edition, which are expected via its website, deportelagunero.com.
