The Lowdown
The Media Maratón de Getxo is an annual half marathon organized by Club Atlético Getxo in Getxo, a coastal town in Biscay (Bizkaia) on Spain's northern Basque coast, just outside Bilbao. The fourth edition is set for Sunday, April 4, 2027, starting and finishing at the Ciudad Deportiva de Fadura (Avenida de los Chopos, 53) at 9:00 AM. The RFEA-homologated 21.097 km course is completely flat and runs through Getxo's most emblematic areas, including the seaside neighborhoods of Algorta and Las Arenas. The half marathon shares race day with a companion RFEA-homologated 10K and a 5K, both starting at 11:30 AM from the same venue. Launched in 2024 under the title sponsorship of the sportswear brand OTSO, the race has grown quickly, from 445 finishers in its first edition to 931 in 2025 and a record 1,115 (811 men, 304 women) in the rain-soaked third edition on March 29, 2026, won by Victor Kipngetich Cheriuyot of Kenya (1:03:17) and Esther Chemtai Sichei of Kenya (1:16:39). Online registration for the 2027 edition opened June 1, 2026 and runs through March 31, 2027 at 22:00 (or until bibs sell out) via the kirolprobak.com platform, with prices rising on January 1, 2027. Finishers receive a medal and technical t-shirt, and the Tiki Toki Fadura facility offers changing rooms and showers for bib pickup and race day.
