Media Maratón Volta á Ría

The Media Maratón Volta á Ría, run as the Memorial Adolfo Ros, is a half marathon co-organized by the councils of Neda, Fene, Ferrol and Narón in the Ferrolterra area of Galicia, with the race listed on the Galician Athletics Federation calendar. It is held each year in December on a Sunday morning, with a 10:00 start. The first edition took place on 5 October 1986, when 182 runners lined up. The race remembers Adolfo Emilio Ros Rodal, a 30-year-old health worker from Ferrol who died on 18 August 1985 at Doniños beach after going into the sea to help children caught by strong currents. The course covers about 21 kilometres of asphalt through all four municipalities around the head of the Ría de Ferrol. For the 39th edition in December 2025, start and finish were on Camiño do Regueiro in Neda, beside the AP-9 access roads, and 723 runners entered the half marathon. The absolute race is open to federated and non-federated athletes aged 18 and over, and the event also has categories for visually impaired runners and for wheelchair and handbike athletes. Free youth races from 50 metres to 3 kilometres run on a circuit by the finish arch. Adult entry was 7 euros in 2025, and registration opened about five weeks before race day on the Carreiras Galegas platform.
