The Medio Maraton de la Ciudad de Mexico BBVA is Mexico City's marquee half marathon, run every July since its debut and now in its nineteenth edition. Organized by the Ciudad de Mexico government through the Instituto del Deporte, alongside the Mexican Athletics Federation, World Athletics, and AIMS, the race draws a capped field of 30,000 runners and has sold out within days in recent editions. The certified 21.0975 km route starts at the Hemiciclo a Juarez in the Alameda Central and finishes at the Angel de la Independencia on Paseo de la Reforma, tracing the city's grand central boulevard past Chapultepec and some of its best-known monuments. Running at roughly 2,240 meters of altitude, the course is largely flat with a few gentle rolls, though the thin air adds its own challenge for visiting runners. Race morning falls in Mexico City's rainy season, so mornings are cool and mild with a chance of afternoon showers -- a good reason organizers set a 6:05 a.m. start. BBVA has sponsored the event as title partner across several consecutive editions. National and international runners register through separate channels, with capacity, not a lottery, the main constraint on entry.
