Medio Maratón de Valladolid

Medio Maratón de Valladolid is the annual road race of this colonial Pueblo Mágico in eastern Yucatán, organized by the Valladolid municipal government together with the Instituto del Deporte de Yucatán (INDEY) and timed to the city's founding-anniversary celebrations each May. The race has run every year since its debut, most recently as the 7th edition on May 17, 2026, held during festivities marking the city's 483rd anniversary. Start is at 5:30 AM from the Palacio Municipal, and the course winds through Valladolid's historic center past emblematic sites including the Zací cenote, the San Bernardino de Siena ex-convent, and the traditional Sisal neighborhood, before finishing back downtown. Alongside the 21K, the event has offered a 5K fun run (and, in some editions, a 10K); the free/general category opens at 18 with submaster, master, and veteran age-division categories for the half marathon. Finishers receive a kit with a race t-shirt, bib, backpack, and timing chip, and the 2026 edition carried a combined prize purse of roughly 90,000 Mexican pesos. The race has grown into one of the region's most significant sporting and tourism events, drawing more than a thousand runners from across the Yucatán Peninsula, other Mexican states, and abroad — with organizers noting that a majority of recent participants have traveled in from neighboring Quintana Roo (Cancún, Chetumal, Cozumel) — and it doubles as a lead-in tune-up race for the larger Maratón de la Marina in Yucatán later in the year. Editions have consistently landed on the third Sunday of May (May 18, 2025; May 17, 2026), so the 8th edition is projected for Sunday, May 16, 2027; as of September 2026 the municipal government has not yet published the official convocatoria or opened registration for that date.
