Medio Maratón Internacional Tlaxcallán

Medio Maratón Internacional Tlaxcallán is the flagship road race of Tlaxcala, Mexico's smallest state, organized by the state government through the Instituto del Deporte del Estado de Tlaxcala (IDET). The race starts and finishes at the Plaza de la Constitución in the historic center of Tlaxcala city, sending runners through cobblestone streets, colonial facades, and centuries-old convents, with dawn views of the Malinche and Popocatépetl volcanoes; the route also passes through the neighboring municipality of Tepeyanco. CONADE, Mexico's national sports commission, has endorsed the course. Held annually in early-to-mid October, the race offers 21K, 10K, and 5K distances starting in waves at 6:30 (wheelchair and visually impaired), 6:35 (half marathon), 6:40 (10K), and 6:50 (5K). The 4th edition ran October 5, 2025, drawing roughly 2,500 to 3,000 runners from across Mexico as part of the city's 500th-anniversary celebrations, with a combined prize purse of more than 400,000 Mexican pesos for the half marathon and 10K winners; Juan Pablo Espinoza and Elisa Hernández won the overall half marathon titles. Tlaxcala sits above 2,200 meters of elevation, and morning temperatures in late October typically run between 8 and 14°C, making the thin mountain air a bigger factor than the course's modest hills. The 5th edition is set for Sunday, October 25, 2026, with a field capped at 3,000 participants across all distances; registration is open now through the official website, with tiered pricing that rises as race day approaches.
