Mitja Marató Granollers
The Lowdown
The Mitja Marató Granollers (officially the Mitja Marató Internacional de Granollers, Les Franqueses i La Garriga) is one of Spain's most established half marathons, run through the towns of Granollers, Les Franqueses del Vallès, and La Garriga about 30 km north of Barcelona. First held on January 18, 1987 with roughly 800 finishers, it has grown into an international fixture on the Catalan running calendar: the rain-soaked 40th edition in January 2026 drew close to 12,000 runners across the half marathon, a 10K, and children's races, with Kenya's Esau Kenboi winning the men's half marathon in 60:39 ahead of Uganda's Feb Chelegoi and Ilias Fifa, who also took the Catalan half marathon title. The 41st edition is set for Sunday, January 24, 2027, organized by the Associació Esportiva La Mitja together with the Granollers, Les Franqueses del Vallès, and La Garriga town councils. Starting and finishing near the Palau Olímpic d'Esports in Granollers, close to the city's Renfe train station, the 21.1K loop climbs gradually and steadily for its first 11 kilometers out through Les Franqueses del Vallès toward La Garriga, then turns back with several short rolling climbs through kilometer 17 before a mostly downhill final stretch back into Granollers — a course locals consider deceptively demanding for a race run on the flat Vallès plain. Registration for 2027 is open in tiered pricing bands as bib numbers fill, capped at 8,000 entrants, with a same-day 10K, a Saturday non-competitive walk, and 'La Mini' children's races rounding out race weekend.
