Pantano Half Marathon
The Lowdown
The Pantano Half Marathon (Mezza Maratona del Pantano) is Basilicata's most attended half marathon, held every September around Lago Pantano, a WWF-protected wetland in Pignola, a hillside town a few kilometers outside the regional capital Potenza. The certified 21.097 km course starts and finishes at the Centro Sportivo Aquatica di Pantano, at 773 meters above sea level, and stays almost entirely flat and fast, with only a short rise near km 18 to interrupt an otherwise PR-friendly loop through the lake's pine woods and open Lucanian countryside. The race carries FIDAL's Bronze rating on the national road calendar and counts toward the 2026 Circuito Lucania Run. A shorter companion event, the StraPantano (9.8 km), runs a reduced version of the same loop. The 2026 edition, the 17th, is dedicated to the Memorial Fedele Riviello and is organized by A.S.D. Podistica Amatori Potenza with the patronage of the Comune di Pignola.
