Roma-Ostia Half Marathon

The Roma-Ostia Half Marathon is one of Italy's oldest and most beloved road races, run nearly every year since 1974 along a point-to-point course from Rome's EUR district to the seaside town of Ostia. Carrying World Athletics Label status, it has drawn Olympic and Boston Marathon champions over its history and regularly attracts more than 10,000 finishers from over 100 countries, making it Italy's most popular half marathon. Runners start in staggered waves outside Roma PalaEUR and head south along Via Cristoforo Colombo for roughly 17 fast kilometers toward the coast. The course rolls through two climbs, including the demanding "salita del Camping" just before halfway, which tops out around 67 meters above sea level, before a long, gentle descent recovers the elevation and carries runners to a flat finish on Piazzale Cristoforo Colombo, where the Tiber meets the sea in Ostia. The net downhill profile and coastal tailwinds have helped the race produce some of Italy's fastest half marathon times. The 2027 edition, the race's 52nd, is scheduled for Sunday, February 28, with entries sold on a rising-price tier system through mid-February. Finishers receive an official medal, a technical shirt, and access to the "Casa RomaOstia" race-weekend village. Note: this is a different event from the autumn Wizz Air Rome Half Marathon, which runs an entirely separate route through central Rome's historic center.
