The Lowdown
The Raiffeisen Zeininger Halbmarathon is an annual half marathon and multi-distance running festival held each August in Zeiningen, a village in the Fricktal region of canton Aargau, Switzerland. First staged in 2021 and organized by the local gymnastics club TV Zeiningen, the event has grown steadily each year, drawing a then-record 402 registrations in 2024 and 391 in the 2026 edition despite a summer heat wave. Raiffeisenbank Wegenstettertal has backed the race as title sponsor since its debut and renewed its commitment for a further three years in 2024.
Starting and finishing at the Brugglismatt schoolhouse in the village center, the 21.6 km half marathon course climbs 546 meters as it winds through open fields, forest trails and the village itself before a signature ascent to the Sonnenberg. A 10.7 km quarter marathon (209 m of gain, offered as both a running and a walking category), a roughly 5 km run, and two children's fun runs (500 m and 2.5 km) round out the program, so the whole village can take part on the same morning. Course-record holder Omar Tareq won the half marathon for a fourth straight year in 2024 in 1:18:10; the 2026 edition was won by Manuel Walss (1:25:31) and Angela Massenz (1:35:56).
The event keeps its community character even as the field has grown: local gymnastics clubs staff food and ice cream stands, four aid stations support the half marathon route, and organizers have adjusted logistics such as extra hydration in hot years. The 2027 edition is scheduled for August 21, with a 09:30 half marathon start and a 13:00 finish cutoff.
