The Lowdown

The Reading Half Marathon is an annual road race held every March in Reading, Berkshire, in southern England. First run in 1983 when it started at Reading University with 5,000 runners, it has grown into one of the UK's largest half marathons, with organizers reporting more than 15,000 spectators lining the route on race day. The single-lap, closed-road course starts at Green Park Business Park, loops past the University of Reading's Whiteknights campus and the ruins of Reading Abbey, runs through the town centre, climbs Russell Street in West Reading, and finishes at Select Car Leasing Stadium, home of Reading Football Club. The event has carried several sponsor names over the decades, including Digital, Asics, Mizuno, Vitality, and Sage; Green Park became headline partner from the 2025 edition, and the race is now also marketed as the Green Park Reading Half Marathon. A companion Mini Marathon for younger runners takes place the same morning. Reading Half Marathon is one of the UK's biggest half marathon charity fundraisers, having raised more than half a million pounds for good causes in 2025, and was one of the first town road races to include a wheelchair category. Entries for the 2027 edition on Sunday, March 21, 2027 are open now, with separate pricing tiers for UK Athletics-affiliated and unaffiliated runners.
