Schwarzwald-Marathon
The Lowdown
The Schwarzwald-Marathon in Bräunlingen is one of Germany's oldest continuously run marathons, founded in 1968 by SV Donaueschingen and TuS Bräunlingen and held every year on the second weekend of October. Billed as the world's oldest nature marathon and women's marathon, the 42.195 km course winds through the Black Forest's Baar plateau on mostly well-maintained forest paths — about 80% trail, 20% asphalt — climbing gently to roughly the halfway point before a long, gradual descent back into Bräunlingen's historic old town. Race weekend also includes a half marathon, a relay marathon, 10K and 5K runs, Nordic Walking, and youth and children's races. The 2026 edition, the 58th running, takes place October 10-11, with the marathon starting Sunday morning at 09:30 from the town hall in Bräunlingen.
