Sheffield Half Marathon
The Lowdown
The Sheffield Half Marathon is a UK Athletics gold-graded road race through the heart of South Yorkshire, organized by Run For All. The course starts on Arundel Gate in Sheffield city centre and climbs Ecclesall Road toward Ringinglow, gaining more than 850 feet in the first five and a half miles on a category 3 climb with sweeping views of the Peak District, before descending through Dore back into the city centre to finish on Pinstone Street. First held in 1929 as a marathon, the event restarted after World War II, moved to Don Valley Stadium in 1991, and was reduced to a half marathon in 2003 before relocating to its current city-centre course in 2015 — a period during which it briefly carried the Plusnet Yorkshire Half Marathon sponsor name. Today it draws thousands of runners each spring as South Yorkshire's biggest event of its kind, with chip timing, a finisher's medal, and a goody bag for every entrant. Entrants must be at least 17 years old on race day.
