Sparkassen Metropolmarathon Fürth-Nürnberg
The Lowdown
The Sparkassen Metropolmarathon Fürth-Nürnberg is Bavaria's largest urban running festival, linking the neighboring cities of Fürth and Nürnberg (Nuremberg) each June. Founded in 2007 as the Jahrhundertmarathon to mark Fürth's 1,000th anniversary and rebranded the following year, the race has grown into a regional institution backed by long-time title sponsor Sparkassen. The course direction alternates annually between the two cities; the 2027 edition runs from Nuremberg's historic Kaiserburg to Fürth's Kleeblatt landmark, passing half-timbered old-town streets, riverside paths, and the market squares of both cities. Alongside the full marathon, runners can enter a half marathon, 10K, Nordic walking event, and a dedicated Pillenstein Kids Marathon, drawing families and elite runners alike. The 2026 edition set a record with roughly 11,500 total participants across all distances. Aid stations, live music, and a festival atmosphere line the entire route, and the event closes with award ceremonies at the finish. Registration for the 2027 Sparkassen Metropolmarathon Fürth-Nürnberg on June 20 is open online.
