StraBenevento
The Lowdown
StraBenevento is an annual FIDAL-sanctioned 10K road race through the historic center of Benevento, in Italy's Campania region, organized by ASD Amatori Podismo Benevento since the early 1990s. The 2026 edition marked the 33rd running of the event, held on May 1 (Festa dei Lavoratori, Italy's Labor Day public holiday), drawing 1,113 competitive finishers alongside more than 2,000 additional participants in the accompanying non-competitive 3K and 1K fun runs. The competitive 10K starts and finishes in Piazza IV Novembre and covers two certified 5K loops through streets including viale degli Atlantici, via Meomartini, viale Mellusi, piazza Risorgimento, viale dei Rettori, and corso Garibaldi. Organizers and past finishers describe the course as technical, with more than twenty turns and frequent changes of rhythm; the steepest stretch comes in the opening 1.2 kilometers, holding a grade around 3% with peaks near 5%. In the 2026 race, Yahya Kadiri won the men's race in 30:53, while Francesca Palomba topped the women's field in 37:10. Benevento, the ancient Samnite and Roman city known for the Arco di Traiano and its regional witch folklore, hosts the race downtown, with awards presented on stage around 11:30 am. StraBenevento has become a fixture of the Campania road-racing calendar and, through the Coast to Coast series, draws entrants from across southern Italy. The next edition's exact date has not yet been published by the organizer; May 1 is projected from the event's consistent multi-year cadence on Italy's Labor Day holiday.
