StraForlì
The Lowdown
StraForlì – Run in the City is a FIDAL-sanctioned 21.0975 km half marathon through the historic center of Forlì, Emilia-Romagna, billed by organizers as "la prima e unica mezza maratona" (the first and only half marathon) to touch all four of the city's medieval gates. The flat, fast course starts and finishes in Piazza Aurelio Saffi and loops past Porta San Pietro, Porta Schiavonia, Porta Ravaldino, and Porta Cotogni, along with the ancient Foro Boario, Piazzale della Vittoria, the Rocca di Caterina Sforza, the university campus, and the San Domenico museum complex, with long straightaways and wide streets and only a single underpass breaking up an otherwise pancake-flat layout. StraForlì launched in March 2024 and ran its second edition in March 2025 before organizers moved race day to mid-May starting with the third edition on May 17, 2026, a shift they have said they intend to keep going forward; this record reflects the projected fourth edition on the following mid-May Sunday, May 16, 2027. Registration and the exact date will be confirmed by organizers closer to race day. The event is organized with the Municipality of Forlì, CONI, and FIDAL and included in FIDAL's national race calendar, drawing elite East African athletes alongside a growing recreational field that topped 1,200 registrants ahead of the 2026 edition. Pace groups are typically offered from 1:25 to 2:45, aid stations are placed at kilometers 5, 10, 15, and 20 plus a recovery bag at the finish, and the competitive race carries a 3-hour time limit. A companion 8 km non-competitive Family Run shares the first 6 km of the course before continuing into the surrounding countryside and back to the city center, making race weekend a family-friendly showcase of Forlì's historic core.
