The Lowdown

The Trollinger Marathon is Heilbronn's largest running event, held annually in Baden-Württemberg through Germany's largest contiguous red-wine-growing region. First run in 2001, the event reached its 24th edition on May 10, 2026, drawing a record roughly 8,400 finishers across all distances, and returns for a 25th edition on April 25, 2027 — a date already confirmed by organizer Heilbronn Marketing GmbH, with registration opening in November 2026. The marathon (42.195 km) starts on Badstraße near the Neckar and finishes at the Frankenstadion, tracing a route through Sontheim, Flein, Talheim, Lauffen, Brackenheim, Nordhausen, and Nordheim past vineyards on the Neckar hillsides, while the half marathon (21.0975 km) splits off near Haigern for a shorter loop that rejoins the main course at Klingenberg. Alongside the two headline distances, the event offers a 10 km run, an 8.7 km Walking/Nordic-Walking course, a three-person Staffel-Marathon relay, a two-person Duo-Marathon, a 4.2 km Zehnteleslauf, and children's Mini-Trolli races. True to its name, finishers receive a bottle of Trollinger red wine, and wine is served at aid stations along the course — a tradition it shares with other European wine-country marathons. The event runs under DLV (German Athletics Federation) rules, with a marathon finish-line cutoff of roughly 6 hours from the 08:30 start.

25th edition in 2027; the event has run annually since 2001 in the region around Heilbronn, Germany's largest contiguous red-wine-growing area (Württembergisch Unterland).

Finishers receive a bottle of Trollinger red wine, and wine is poured at aid stations — a tradition shared with other European wine-country marathons (e.g. Médoc Marathon, Marathon Deutsche Weinstraße).

Course marathon record: 2:20:16 (Evans Kipkorir Taiget, Kenya, 2013, men); 2:49:28 (Veronica Clio Hähnle-Pohl, Germany, 2017, women).

2026 (24th) edition drew a participation record of over 8,400 finishers across all disciplines, with roughly 11,000 total participants including the Saturday children's/youth races at the Frankenstadion.
