The Lowdown

The Viterbo Half Marathon is a FIDAL-certified 21.097 km road race through the historic center of Viterbo and the surrounding Tuscia countryside in northern Lazio, Italy. Now in its second edition, the race starts and finishes at Piazza dei Caduti, weaving past Viterbo's medieval quarter, San Pellegrino, and city walls before looping into the rolling landscape outside town. The event is held during European Sport Week with patronage from the European Parliament and European Commission offices in Italy, and is organized by ASD Viterbo Runners in collaboration with OPES Italia, with support from CONI, CIP, Sport e Salute, the Lazio Region, and the City of Viterbo. Alongside the competitive half marathon, runners can enter a non-competitive 4x5 km team relay, and a short inclusive walk is open to participants of all ages and abilities. Aid stations are placed at kilometers 5, 10, 15, 20, and the finish. The inaugural 2025 edition drew roughly 1,500 participants; the 2026 edition caps the half marathon field at 2,000 runners and the relay at 200 teams. Entry to the competitive race requires FIDAL, Runcard, or EPS membership and a valid agonistic medical certificate for athletics.
